Brown Image Car Club Honorary Member, longtime public servant, and CSUF alumnus, Mr. Joe Cordero, on community and legacy:

*“Chicano Park in Barrio Logan was born out of community activism and resistance in 1970. When plans emerged to build a California Highway Patrol substation in an already underserved neighborhood, the community organized, pushed back, and demanded something better—a park for the people of Barrio Logan. Members of Brown Image, alongside community residents, reclaimed the land through an unauthorized cleanup and tree-planting, even as bulldozers stood ready and city officials ordered them to leave. That moment reflected the spirit of the times and the strength of a community united. Lowriding has always been—and continues to be—about love for family, pride in community, and resistance through culture, creativity, and unity.”*
